The rising butt hinge is a lift-off hinge designed to reduce the wear and tear on carpets or similar floor coverings by raising the door over them on opening. The door begins to raise as soon as the door starts to open, door will need to be slightly splayed at the top edge of the corner on the rebate side to allow the door raise. To ensure correct working, raising butts must be carefully fitted co-axially with all hinges taking the load, so they can move freely through the swing of the door without binding. The knuckles should be given adequate clearance at the door and at the jamb. To help deduce warping it is recommended three hinges to be fitted per door. The upper and lower leaf’s being equal from the centre line of the door and the middle hinge being fitted on the centre line.
